    Mesembryanthemum splendens flowers

    Mesembryanthemum splendens flowers
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Louis Jordaan

The flowers of Mesembryanthemum splendens grow in clusters from stem-tips.

They spread their narrow white petals that grow in a few whorls to 4 cm in diameter over four or five sepals. Some of the petals in the upper whorls havent attained full length.

Filamentous staminodes are erect around the cluster of yellow-anthered stamens in the flower centres.

Flowering happens throughout the year, abundantly after rain (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist).
