Mesembryanthemum tortuosum in August

The flowers of Mesembryanthemum tortuosum may be white, pale yellow or pale pink. They have spindly narrow petals, spreading to a corolla width of 3 cm. The flower in picture has a pale yellow centre, the outer petal parts white.

The species is sometimes still called Sceletium tortuosum, the name change by no means universally accepted (yet).

The plant grows in the arid inland parts of the winter rainfall region in the south-west of South Africa. This plant was seen at the Minwater farm near Oudtshoorn (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; iSpot).
