Selago flanaganii is a densely branched shrub or shrublet reaching 1,5 m in height, sometimes smaller than 1 m at the higher elevations of its range. The younger stems are downy, the plant branching well from the base.
The species distribution is inland in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, also in Lesotho. The photo was taken in the KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg.
The habitat is higher elevation grassland and shrub veld to elevations up to 3300 m, often seen on disturbed soil patches. Frost is heavy in winter here and snow is possible. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century.
The plant has traditional medicine uses (Pooley, 1998; Trauseld, 1969; iNaturalist; https://www.worldfloraonline.org; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
