Summer dry, stony bareness in the Salmonsdam Nature Reserve does not deter Edmondia sesamoides from flowering, as if the task is easy. The central disc florets are already brown from the earlier yellow, the bracts around them pale with yellowish glow near the discs. The pointy tips of Edmondia sesamoides flowerhead bracts grown in concentric rows, present precise patterns around the central disc florets typical of Asteraceae. The fertile florets are tubular, each ending in five petal tips covered in gland-tipped hairs. Flowerheads are from 2,5 cm to 3 cm in diameter.

The tiny leaves adhere to the stems as if they feel cold in the sun. The flowerheads must be successful as umbrellas (Manning, 2007; iNaturalist).
