Erepsia anceps, known as the common spoonfig or the untidy spoonfig, is a slender, erect shrublet growing semi-erect branches to heights around 30 cm. This is one of several Erepsia and other mesemb species commonly known as altydvygies (everlasting mesembs) because the flowers do not close at night.
The oppositely paired, succulent leaves are slenderly triangular in cross-section, spaced along the stems.
The species distribution is in the southwest of the Western Cape, from the Cape Peninsula northwards to around Tulbagh and eastwards to Swellendam.
The habitat is lower fynbos slopes in sandstone derived soils. It flowers most after fire. The habitat population is deemed of least concern early in the twenty first century (Manning, 2007; Smith, et al, 1998; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
