    Ruschia calcarea

    Ruschia calcarea
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

Ruschia calcarea is a shrubby leaf succulent growing erect and spreading branches. This is not one of the few spinescent ruschias.

The leaves often have soft, pointed teeth up the keels, not much seen in this photo.

The species distribution is in the Northern Cape and North West.

The habitat is dry, sandy and stony places where the plants grow in the open. The status of the species population in nature is unknown due to insufficient data (Smith, et al, 1998; Herre, 1971; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
