    Gladiolus monticola inflorescence

    Gladiolus monticola inflorescence
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The inflorescence of Gladiolus monticola grows on an unbranched stem that is erect at the base, angled after the upper leaf sheath and thinly wiry, only 1,5 mm in diameter at the inflorescence base.

From three to nine flowers are borne. The narrow perianth tubes in picture are coloured similarly as their flaring tips. The lower tepals protrude further than the upcurved dorsal one. The lower three tepals are joined for the first 5 mm.

Several flowers are usually open simultaneously as in the photo (Goldblatt and Manning, 1998; Clarke and Mackenzie, 2007; Manning, 2007; iNaturalist).
