    Delosperma lavisiae flowering

    Delosperma lavisiae flowering
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

Abundant Delosperma lavisiae flowers can be eye-catching during the warmer months in the higher elevation inland grassland in the east of South Africa.

The longish stalked flowers grow solitary. There are leaf-like bracts below the unequal sepals. The purple-pink petals are narrowly spoon-shaped. The flower centre, whitish when young, is ringed by thread-like, small, inner petals and possibly also white staminodes around the stamens (Smith, et al, 2017; Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist).
