    Melianthus major leaf stipules

    Melianthus major leaf stipules
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The united stipules subtending the alternate leaves of Melianthus major sheathe the petioles. The stipules may be wavy in the margins of their lower parts, in-curving in the longer upper parts. Such a stipule may be as long as the lowermost leaflets of the actual leaf (Manning, 2007; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
