    Calobota sericea green pods

    Calobota sericea green pods
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The young Calobota sericea fruit pod is green, straight and flat, apart from where seeds inside cause bulges. The narrowing tip curves up in its lower margin, the upper one where the seeds are attached remaining straight. The pods in view are faintly hairy, also shiny. The style persists at the pod tip, the calyx turning brown over the backend.

The stalk of the pod is short, creamy or greenish and curving down, allowing the pod to descend angled out. Some pods seem to have dropped off early from the upper ends of stems where they grow in groups, spaced and spiralling (Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
