    Tetragonia nigrescens fruit

    Tetragonia nigrescens fruit
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The slender-stalked Tetragonia nigrescens fruit is four-winged, indented at its top where some style remains persist in picture, turned black. The wings are narrowed at the base and thinly textured.

The single seed is carried in the central axis where the wings connect, near the tip of the fruit. Tetragonia fruits are indehiscent (Manning, 2007; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
