Piaranthus geminatus subsp. geminatus dull leaves

Piaranthus geminatus subsp. geminatus dull leaves
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

These bulky Piaranthus geminatus subsp. geminatus leaves, pale grey-purple like chewed bubblegum, were seen outside Calitzdorp in September after a dry winter.

Still, the short, fat stems show folds and bulges, more than wrinkling although not much evidence of green or new growth. Plants are patient and some succulents can wait long (Sloane and White, 1937; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000).
