Haworthia truncata var. truncata after blooming

After flowering in September on a stony hill next to Calitzdorp, this Haworthia truncata var. truncata is still a modest presence in the veld when it comes to size; in keeping with the habit of the subspecies.

Easily missed, the leaves barely surface above-ground. The erect flower stem retains a few dry fruit husks split three-ways to release their seeds. The capsule covers seen here are long and narrow, grey-brown on the outside, yellow-brown inside.

So little baggage or body to sustain, the plant is prepared for eventualities, most likely in the form of further drought and full sunlight in the open, during the long wait for better days (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015).
