Trachyandra falcata flowers taller than leaves

Trachyandra falcata flowers taller than leaves
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The two tall Trachyandra falcata inflorescence branches are nearly done flowering, at this stage only managing to open one sparse ring of flowers near the top. Energy is being relayed to some additional, short branches low down on the stalk for belated sideshows.

The tapering leaves don’t impress with size, but the subterranean resource facility is also used to drive flower and fruit production (Manning, 2007; Le Roux, et al, 2005; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997).
