Dimorphotheca sinuata plant base

Several stems radiate out from the centre of this Dimorphotheca sinuata plant, flat on the ground. They are sparsely leaved, some of the basal leaves larger than those higher up. The plant growing next to the road north of Springbok in August needs water.

The old stalked flower in picture has one row of narrow bracts tapering to acutely pointed tips. Its rays may have done their time; night-time closing in this species only brings them together instead of curling back (Manning, 2009; Eliovson, 1990; iNaturalist).
