Bulbine praemorsa three distinct flowering stages

Bulbine praemorsa three distinct flowering stages
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

Buds, open flowers and fruit beginnings are all present in this successful Bulbine praemorsa raceme. The stages differ in spatial orientation: the buds are erect, the open flowers face outwards horizontally, while the pendulous old flowers undergo transformation into fruit in droopy mode.

The narrow green lines along the centres of the open flower tepals are paler than those on the outside surfaces of the buds. The recently withered perianths are thinner than the buds by more than half (Manning, 2009; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
