    Melasphaerula graminea, feeklokkies

    Melasphaerula graminea, feeklokkies
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

Melasphaerula graminea is the only species in its monotypic genus, part of the Iridaceae family.

The rounded, cream corolla cups are based upon two, unequal bracts and have pointy tepal tips. There are longitudinal lines along the dull green to pale, purplish grey bract surfaces.

A couple of much smaller, thread-like bracts flank the base of each branch on the slightly zigzagging flowering stem (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007; Le Roux, et al, 2005; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; iNaturalist).
