    Euphorbia burmannii three-segmented fruit

    Euphorbia burmannii three-segmented fruit
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

Euphorbia burmannii false flowers turned into fruit show the three bulging green segments. Styles tipped with decaying stigma remains are still slightly visible on the fruit tops. These fruits have a fine covering of velvety hairs.

Markedly smaller than the fruit, the yellow flowers also present in picture at many stem-tips are about 3 mm in diameter. The plant bears bisexual false flowers (Frandsen, 2017; Smith, et al, 2017; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; iNaturalist).
