Cotula laxa young flowerhead from the side

Cotula laxa young flowerhead from the side
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

In profile the young, pill-shaped Cotula laxa flowerhead is still flat on top; its disc florets in early bud stage.

Round-tipped involucral bracts curve in around the margins. They are purplish as the long, wiry peduncle, but not as shiny. There are two rows of bracts in the involucre and no scales on the receptacle (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
