    Rafnia schlechteriana blooming

    Rafnia schlechteriana blooming
    Author: Ivan Lätti

Rafnia schlechteriana flowers appear in small clusters in the gaps between stem-tip leaf-pairs. These leaf-pairs are initially positioned around the flowers like protective, opposing bracts.

The flowering branchlets emerge from upper leaf axils of bigger stems. A long internode is present under the inflorescence and its new leaf-pair. More flowers in their new leaf-pairs promptly follow from stem-tips. Thus, the larger, new and yellowish leaves dominate at stem-tips for a period, rather than the (smaller) flowers (Manning, 2007; iNaturalist).
