Pelargonium scabrum emergent buds and leaves

Pelargonium scabrum emergent buds and leaves
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

A cluster of buds is developing in the central Pelargonium scabrum stem-tip in picture, tiny leaves in others. Close together on stalks yet to elongate at this early stage, the green bud tips conical.

The stalked and primarily three-lobed leaves have a small secondary lobe veering backwards from the lower half of every lateral lobe. Lobe channelling seems designed for collecting rainwater nearer the stem.
