    Wiborgia monoptera fruit

    Wiborgia monoptera fruit
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Jack Lätti

The fruit of Wiborgia monoptera, in Afrikaans the ertjiebos (pea bush) or wolfdoring (wolf thorn), are circular to elliptic discs with protruding ridges on the sides.

Pale brown and purplish red colouring on the firm, veined surfaces make them conspicuous among the grey foliage, quite different to the pale yellow flowers. The fruits hang decoratively on sturdy stalks from upper branches (Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
