    Euphorbia hamata purple fruit

    Euphorbia hamata purple fruit
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Jack Lätti

Shiny, purple fruit on this female Euphorbia hamata bush in August still bear their branched styles on top. The shiny, segmented fruit is darker in colour than the bulging stigmas on the branched tips.

Some stem-tip bracts are still pinkish red where the fruits are yet to develop. The others have faded, pale shades, the fruits having replaced them as the items of colour. The pale green stem-tips bearing the fruit are thick, almost the diameter of the fruit itself (Frandsen, 2017; Smith, et al, 2017; Smith and Crouch, 2009; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist; http://llifle.com).
