    Wahlenbergia thunbergiana flower

    Wahlenbergia thunbergiana flower
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

Wahlenbergia thunbergiana flowers grow in small panicles on sturdy stalks at stem-tips. One or two leaf-like bracts may be present slightly below the short green calyx comprised of five pointed sepals clutching the corolla base.

The flower in picture has a conspicuous, curved style ending in a bottlebrush-like stigma. The stigma tip is bluish, not yet divided into its three branches.

Flowering happens from late winter to mid-spring (Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
