    Microloma sagittatum stems

    Microloma sagittatum stems
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The young stems of Microloma sagittatum are dark to pale green with short white hairs scattered sparsely across their surfaces.

The internodes between the opposite leaf pairs are long. Internodes are the stem sections between nodes where the leaves emerge.

Twining secures the stem rigidly in the position established early by the young stem-tip around the woody shrub stems of the host plant. Older stems become brown and they lose their leaves (Manning, 2009; Le Roux, et al, 2005; iNaturalist).
