    Stoeberia frutescens plenty of buds
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

Green buds of tomorrows Stoeberia frutescens flowers predominate in the photo. Dark green leaf-pairs with skin mottling spread below the buds like bracts.

Still younger buds emerge beside the stalks of some central, erect ones as the flower cluster increases. Stalks and upper nodes elongate while maintaining the nearly flat top of the inflorescence (Le Roux, et al, 2005; Smith, et al, 1998; Herre, 1971; iNaturalist).
