    Schlechteranthus albiflorus capsules

    Schlechteranthus albiflorus capsules
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The fruit capsules of Schlechteranthus albiflorus are hard and erect. There are ten locules on the plant in picture, the number varying in the species from eight to twelve. The closed valves bulge slightly above, the base of the capsule body funnel-shaped.

There are valve wings present and expanding keels diverging abruptly to their tips. The seed cavities are shallow. Covering membranes are present, the closing bodies white and large.

The seeds are smooth with a nipple attachment (Smith, et al, 1998; Herre, 1971; iNaturalist).
