Barleria elegans

Barleria elegans, the white bushveld barleria, is a scrambling, spreading shrub that grows from a woody rootstock to heights around 1 m. Young stems are hairy. This hardy plant may invade disturbed land.

The species is distributed from KwaZulu-Natal northwards across the Lowveld parts of Mpumalanga and Limpopo to tropical east Africa.

The habitat is low altitude thicket, woodland and riverine bush in warm and tropical regions where the plants grow in sunny places and semi-shade. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Manning, 2009; Pooley, 1998; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
