    Euclea crispa notched leaves

    Euclea crispa notched leaves
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

These Euclea crispa leaves, oblong to oblanceolate in shape were seen in the Addo Elephant National Park in August. They appear to be opposite, but that is not a definitive characteristic of this species that displays opposite, sub-opposite or spiralled leaf positions.

The leaf blades are blue-green to grey-green in colour, smooth with straight margins and midribs prominent on the lower surfaces. The notched leaf-tips are not that often seen (Coates Palgrave, 2002).
