Zygophyllum microcarpum fruit not hanging

Zygophyllum microcarpum fruit are borne pointing upwards. One in the photo still has the thin, erect style of the departed flower upon it. Gradual colour change is happening as the fruits ripen.

The multitude of small leaves, uneven in shape and size, are ashen to greenish grey, contrasting against the tints of yellow, brown and red of the fruits.

This fruit shape is called a samara, a term denoting a winged fruit carrying one seed. There are also cities and women called by that name in several cultures (Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008; iSpot; Wikipedia).
