    Polygala asbestina floral crest

    Polygala asbestina floral crest
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The feathery crest at the tip of the keel petal of the Polygala asbestina flower has some branching in its thin blue threads. Not much else of the flower is visible here, but the crest is probably enough for a favourable chance of attracting pollinators.

The flower was seen north of the Swartberge during April (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010).
