Crassula rubricaulis attracting attention without flowers

Crassula rubricaulis attracting attention without flowers
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

A close look at these red Crassula rubricaulis leaves show the obtusely pointed leaf tips, but not any marginal hairiness. The outer surface of the leaf is more convex than the inner one in most cases. Nearly erect, the leaves are smooth, more sandy than hairy if unaided eyesight can trust here.

Green leaf parts are restricted to the lower areas less exposed to direct sunlight. This plant was seen near Oudtshoorn in April at the end of a very dry summer (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
