    Orbea conjuncta flower centre

    Orbea conjuncta flower centre
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The central base part of the Orbea conjuncta flower corolla is a complex structure of outer and inner corona components measuring about 8 mm in diameter.

The five, velvety outer corona lobes rise outwardly angled in a kind of star-shape, a shape repeatedly and variously appearing in Orbea and generally in Apocynaceae flowers. Each outer corona lobe of this flower has a fold down its centre between two bulging parts ending in rounded tips. These lobes are cream coloured near the base, where five red hollows form a ring around the flat yellow lobes of the inner corona (www.llifle.com).
