    Wahlenbergia capensis leaves
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The ascending leaves of Wahlenbergia capensis are scattered up the hairy stems that branch low down. The stalkless leaves are narrowly obovate to elliptic with raggedly toothed margins. The soft, pale green leaf surfaces are sparsely covered in long, straight, white hairs. The leaves may be wavy, although not the case in this photo or very slightly so. Pale midribs are visible. Leaf dimensions are 5 cm to 7 cm by 1,5 cm to 2 cm (Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; www.plantzafrica.com).
