Wahlenbergia capensis, the Cape bluebell, is an annual plant, a herb reaching heights around 50 cm.

The species distribution is in the Western Cape and the southern Cape, occasionally seen in the west of the Northern Cape. The habitat is mainly sandy flats and lower slopes among fynbos or coastal scrub. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century.

Introduction of this plant into Australia is rued today as it has become a noxious weed there (Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; www.plantzafrica.com; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
