    Polystachya mauritiana flowers

    Polystachya mauritiana flowers
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The small flowers of Polystachya mauritiana are non-resupinate, their lips at the top of the flowers, median sepals at the bottom.

Flower colour is often bright yellow while the lip is paler, but other flower colours do occur. The petals are narrower than the median sepal. The lip is three-lobed. Flowering happens from midsummer to early autumn (Leistner, (Ed.), 2000; www.orchidspecies.com; www.zimbabweflora.co.zw).
