    Habenaria barbertoni leaves

    Habenaria barbertoni leaves
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The leaves of Habenaria barbertoni are lance-shaped to oblong, tapering to acute tips and sheathing the stem at the base. The lower ones may be up to 5 cm long. The leaves decrease in size up the stem and grade into floral bracts of the spike. These bracts remain erect among the flowers, shorter than the flowers they subtend (Lowrey and Wright, 1987; Germishuizen and Fabian, 1982; JSTOR).
