The alternate leaves of Commelina erecta sheathe the stems. Leaf colour is greyish green, the shape ovate to lanceolate, folding in more or less along the midribs. The margins are entire, tapering to acutely pointed tips and lobed or eared at the base before the sheath. The leaves and stems are hairless or minutely hairy. Leaf length varies between 6 cm and 12 cm (Manning, 2009; Van Wyk and Malan, 1997; Pooley, 1998; Blundell, 1992).
