    The trunk of Brachylaena discolor is covered in dark grey to brownish grey bark that becomes rough and somewhat longitudinally fissured on old stems. Both single and multi-stemmed trees are usually seen.

    The young twigs are white and woolly with hairs, later becoming hairless. They are then purplish or red-brown in colour with pale lenticels scattered along their surfaces (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002).
