    Disa patula var. transvaalensis flowers

    Disa patula var. transvaalensis flowers
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The flowers of Disa patula var. transvaalensis in picture show their erect, angular hoods and protruding lips and spurs well. Patulus means spread out or extended (Latin).

    D. patula resembles D. klugei, although the lips and spurs are straighter in D. patula, the flowers smaller and the inflorescence thinner in D. patula var. transvaalensis. Some small purple spots are scattered on the inside of the hood and on the lateral sepals (Pooley, 1998).
