    Disa patula var. patula leaves

    Disa patula var. patula leaves
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The leaves of Disa patula var. patula show their erect stance close to the stem and bright to bluish green colours here. The leaf has a pointed tip that veers outwards just slightly and sheathes the stem at the leaf base. Leaves occur up the stem to the base of the flower spike and continue in smaller form as the bract below each flower.

    D. patula var. patula differs from D. patula var. transvaalensis in a more southerly (though overlapping) distribution, a wider inflorescence (of over 3 cm in diameter) and larger flowers (Pooley, 1998).
