    Disa klugei stem leaves

    Disa klugei stem leaves
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The leaves of Disa klugei sheathe the stem and overlap as they decrease in size up it. They are narrowly lance-shaped, taper to acutely pointed tips and fold in along their midribs. Leaf colour is blue-green to grey-green.

The plant’s habitat of montane, sour grassland occurs at elevations ranging between 1200 m and 2100 m, where convection rain falls in summer and winters are cold.

The species is considered vulnerable in its habitat early in the twenty first century (iSpot; www.orchidspecies.com; www.redlist.sanbi.org).
