    Disa fragrans in habitat

    Disa fragrans in habitat
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The habitat of Disa fragrans is damp, montane grassland at altitudes between 1800 m and 3000 m. Conditions vary considerably across the plant’s widespread African distribution; plants found on slopes, among rocks or on cliffs.

On the robust plant in picture some of the cauline leaves or stem leaves, smaller than the basal leaves and decreasing, have turned black in part, the inflorescence well developed (Pooley, 1998; www.zimbabweflora.co.zw).
