Brachycorythis conica subsp. transvaalensis displaying floral bracts

Each flower of Brachycorythis conica subsp. transvaalensis is subtended by a long, leafy green bract. In this species the floral bracts are not reflexed, but curve over or around their flowers to acutely pointed tips.

These pale bracts in the shape of isosceles triangles are conspicuous on the inflorescence in the photo. The bracts don’t interfere with the grey bees said to visit these flowers and probably see to their pollination while inspecting them for food (wildorchids.co.za).
