Gardenia thunbergia fruit

The ovoid grey fruit of Gardenia thunbergia were spotted here on a Kirstenbosch tree in April. Go there at any time, there is a chance of seeing fruits on this tree in every season.
The pale patches on both fruit and branches seen here may be lichen. Note the variability in the shape of leaf tips (Coates Palgrave, 2002).
