    Cassine peragua stems

    Cassine peragua stems
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The stems of Cassine peragua are covered in grey-brown or dark grey bark with some yellow pigment. The bark becomes finely fissured and horizontal cracked, forming square flakes. Young stems are longitudinally striated.

The reddish brown wood is hard and heavy, used in the manufacturing of furniture (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002; Van Wyk and Van Wyk, 1997).
