    Pelargonium cucullatum fast after fire

    Pelargonium cucullatum fast after fire
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

This stand of pink flowering Pelargonium cucullatum plants in the foreground among the Kogelberg fynbos was seen in November. This is about the middle and maybe the peak of its blooming season.

The plants are making most of their opportunity to dominate in this young veld still recovering from the last fire. It is unlikely that they will become obliterated by the slower, taller shrubs completely, because of their natural height.

Nature always holds surprises. The unusual and unexpected do occur, even for those that have been observing for the best part of a lifetime.
