    Leipoldtia schultzei leaves

    Leipoldtia schultzei leaves
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The paired leaves of Leipoldtia schultzei are dark to pale green and hairless, triangular in cross-section with some chubbiness. The mature leaves in the photo are red-tipped, the stems succulent only near their tips. The leaves become 15 mm long and less than 5 mm wide.

The plant is not browsed. Where an abundance of these plants occur, a flower fest may be enjoyed in a good season, but please see to the reduction of livestock numbers on the land as over-stocking is destroying the habitat (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Smith, et al, 1998).
