This Conophytum truncatum subsp. truncatum plant growing near Oudtshoorn on the Minwater farm shows pinkish petal tips on its solitary open flower. Desiccated old leaf skins surround the fleshy green growth of the young leaves. In some cases a couple of leaves are included in one protective covering, maybe caused by a later splitting.

The dark green leaf-top spots along the bulging pale surfaces are randomly scattered, varying in size and sometimes avoiding the edges of the leaves (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; iSpot; www.plantzafrica.com).
