    Serruria elongata demonstrating elongation

    Serruria elongata demonstrating elongation
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The fruits borne on this Serruria elongata plant are far above the yellow-green foliage that hides below in short fynbos. This fynbos veld had a fire a couple of seasons ago, the Serruria and some Aulax at this stage tall among the youthful green diversity on the move.

The strong stalks, where all the elongation of S. elongata occurs, shows scattered, alternate sprouting at some nodes; higher up often flowerhead beginnings that did not make it, lower down leaves or branches.
